Biography

Artist Statement

Natalie Waters is an artist based out of Bend, Oregon. Her journey began in Livermore, California, where she grew up, as did her passion for art and design along with her. Her interest began young, always wanting to be painting or drawing or crafting something. As she grew up, this interest turned towards wanting to create something with meaning and direction, art with a purpose, that led her in the direction of design.

I am a graphic designer who draws influence from my passion to create things with my hands. Beginning my art journey with media ranging from drawing to painting to crafting anything my mind and environment would allow, the drive to create designs with a purpose, for a purpose, led me to the most simplistic yet elegant solutions for projects.

My designs strive for the clean minimalistic satisfaction of having the perfect balance between too much and too little. I focus on finding this balance as it is key with the pure and simple functional method and form of art. In theory, every design would have this balance, but as each design is unique in its form and purpose, so too is the balance that flows through it. Aligning with the minimalistic style, I take inspiration from many modern and contemporary designs, but can adapt in style and technique for any situation that arises. As a multimedia artist, crafting thins by hand provides technique and new ideas that flow into my designs and allows for adaptability.

Being fairly nifty with computers, she began learning the digital side of art in high school in a Regional Occupational Program that focused on Fraphic Arts, and continued her studies at Las Positas College. After completing a certificate and Associate of Arts in Visual Communications, she took some time off to travel and explore, while focusing on personal projects and taking on professional projects as they came about.

She continued to further her education and knowledge of the arts at Oregon State University, where she has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Communication Arts, summa cum laude. In such a centralized location of the state, it also allowed for exploration and inspiration in the new surroundings.

Much of her design is inspired by the modern minimalistic style, but she also has a lot of influence from her surroundings, including the city she grew up in and the rural areas she enjoys exploring. The many places she has visited along with the multiple mediums she enjoys working with allow her designs to be adaptable to the projects she takes on and envisions.
